3. Satan on the empty earth during the 1000 years???

Bible said: “And I saw an angel come down  from heaven, having the key of the Abyss (bottomless pit) … And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the Abyss (bottomless pit), and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled” (Rev.20:1,2, AMP).

Following the E.White’s vision Adventists teach that after the Second coming nothing and nobody will be left on the earth.  All the righteous will be taken to heaven, all the wicked will be killed, the earth and everything on it will burn down.

Therefore Satan will not be overthrown in the Abyss, but will remain on the earth together with all his angels. The chains here,  are symbolical and mean only that satan and his angels will be held down by circumstances, as there will be nobody to seduce.

p2ead.1.jpg (41605 bytes)

In the support of their erroneous theory Adventists
usually quote  the following verses: 2Pet.3:10 and
Jer.4:23,25, which we shall discuss a little bit later.
And now little by little we will see all the absurd of
the given doctrine.

At first, think for a moment over this question:
Why God needs those 1000 years if all resurrected
after  1000 years people will be the wicked ones and
they will be  burned any way?
What for God need to wait for 1000 years if it will not
change  anything for anyone? If it will not give any hope
for anyone?  Satan and his angels know their fate, there
is no way back.
The dead wicked can not change their
destiny also.

Adventists answer: during those 1000 years the
righteous in heaven will judge the dead wicked.
However what judgment we are talking about, if
the verdict for them was already given?
So what
for God needs those meaningless 1000 years?

Further you will see, that  senseless is only the Adventist doctrine itself. You will see, the Bible clearly speaks, the first resurrection is only for saints, who together with alive saints will be taken to heaven without judgment for the 1000 years. However the second resurrection is not only for the wicked, but for “the rest” (Rev.20:5) of people: for the wicked and for the righteous who during all these 1000 years will live on the restored earth. For this reason  Satan will be cast into the abyss « that he should deceive
the nations no more
». But we will analyze Bible prophecies step by step...

So, what we know about Satan? The Bible tells, that earlier when Satan was in heaven he always had an access to the earth (Job 2:2), and became the master of the earth (John 12:31); after heavenly war he was cast to the earth eternally (Rev.12:9); when Jesus will come Satan will be cast into the Abyss (Rev.20:1).

Usually Adv. Teach, that in Rev. 20:1-3  the word “Abyss”  was used for description of the place, where Satan will be placed after the Second coming, and it is the same word, or word with the same meaning, which  was used in Gen.1:2, where the initial chaos before creation of the earth was described. Thus, earth will be in the state of “initial chaos” and Satan will stay on it.

First of all, Old Testament (Genesis) was written in Hebrew, New Testament (Revelation) - in Greek. Two absolutely different languages can not have the same word. You can see it by yourself. On website www.scripture4all.org  there are the both texts: in Hebrew and in Greek. There the words in Genesis and in Revelation are different.

As regarding if both words had one meaning: "the initial chaos",  let's at first consider etymology of the word “abussos”, which was used in Revelation (you can check in any Etymological dictionary, for example: The American Heritage® Dictionary of  the English Language: Fourth Edition.2000,“abyss”, Etymology- http://www.bartleby.com/61/21/A0032100.html. "abussos"),

Is that true, that it means [initial chaos]?

abyss Look up abyss at Dictionary.com

from L.L. abyssus, from Gk. abyssos "bottomless,"
from a- "without" + byssos "bottom."

The initial meaning of the Greek word "abussos" was
"
bottoml
ess".  It means: very deep, a pit, vast chasm,
fissure, nadir, crater
.

That is why in NT of KJV the word "abussos",
which was used in NT 9 times (see
http://westover.searchgodsword.org/lex/grk/view.cgi?number=12
was translated as  " bottomless", "bottomless pit" and "deep". Translations of the word "abussos" as "initial chaos" was accepted much later.

For the first time the word “Abussos” with the meaning “disorder”  was recorded  in the middle of the first century AD in “Metamorphosis”
of the roman poet Ovid
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos.
During the time of apostles , this word still had its original meaning: «very deep pit».

Thus, in Luke (8:31) the demons besought Jesus that He would not command them to go out from the men they demonized into the "abussos", and He had then allowed them to go into pigs. This was talking about an immediate action. The demons did not ask for permission not to go into "initial chaos", which  according to Adventist teachings would be at least only after 2000 years. They asked to not send them to the bottomless pit, which as you will see later,  existed in the time of Jesus' ministry and exists today.

Also in Rev.9:1,2,11 we see the demons coming out of
the abyss at the sounding of the 5-th trumpet, when the earth is still far away to "initial chaos". Bible says they will torture the wicked for 5 months. So how the wicked can exist for 5 months in the initial chaos?

By the way, according to Adventist teachings 5-th
trumpet already sounded in 6 - 7century AD. They teach that locusts which came from abyss are A
rabian people. There is no explanations given why in ch. 20 of Rev. the word “abyss”, as they teach, means “initial chaos”, but in ch.9 the same word has a some completely different meaning: Arabian people for sure didn’t come from initial   chaos in 6 - 7century AD.
(

).

Next. The statement, that the earth after the Second
coming will be in the same condition which it was in the beginning of creation, is deprived any logic.
In Gen.
1:2,6-10 is clearly shown, the earth in that time was
dipped in water. Also
2Pet.3:5,6: «by the word of God …
the earth standing out of the water and in the water
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with
water, perished
». The Earth in water in that time was
obviously different from that which will be burnt.

When Old Testament was translated in Greek, there in
Gen. 1:2 the word "chaos" was used, which
originally
did not mean "disorder" also. The given meaning
the word had received much later.
Dictionary of
etymology tells that in ancient  times the wordchaos” meantgreat deep”, and fordisorderGreeks had  another  word– «tarakhe»
(http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?search=
possibly&searchmode=phrase

Therefore in Gen.7:11 and Jonah 2:6 the same
Hebrew word, as in Gen.1:2 was translated as
«great deep»:

In the six hundredth year of Noah's life… were all the fountains of the great deep broken up » (Gen.7:11). «The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head» (Jonah 2:5)

Therefore, Adventists teach right, that the words in Gen.1:2 and Rev.20:1 mean the same, however they teach that the words mean “initial chaos”, when  we see clearly that the meaning is “ great deep”.

Catholic encyclopedia tells:
”Abyss- (Greek abyssos) is primarily and classically an adjective, meaning deep, very deep... Hence the meanings: (1) primeval waters; (2) the waters beneath the earth; (3) the upper seas and rivers; (4) the abode of the dead, limbo; (5) the abode of the evil spirits, hell”  http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01075d.htm

Let's see, what Old Testament speaks about, where Satan will be placed at the Second coming of Jesus: on earth, or in the great deep - the abode of the evil spirits?

«Hell [unseen] from beneath is excited about you, to meet you at your coming...and worms cover you...you shall be brought down to Sheol [unseen], to the lowest depths of the рit [crypt]» (Isaiah14:9,11,15).
(The words in brackets mean the exact meaning of Hebrew or the Greek word).

«I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell  [nether parts of the earth] with them that descend into the pit [crypt]» (Ezekiel 31:16).

Now we shall look, in what cases the same words are used in Old Testament.

The word which means [unseen], translated as hell or Sheol, was used in 1Sam.2:6, Ps.16:10, Ps.49:14, Ps.9:17, Ps.55:15, 23; Prov.15:11, 27:20, Amos 9:2, Num.16:30, Ps.86:13.

The word which means [crypt] used in Ps.143:7, Prov.1:12; Ps.28:1.

The word which means [nether parts of the earth] used in Ps.63:9; Ezek 31:14,16,18; 32:18,24.

All these words from Bible mean the same, namely: a place under ground.

Now we need to look for the words with same meanings in New Testament.

In Eph.4:9, 10 Now what can this, He (Jesus) ascended, mean but that He had previously descended from heaven into the lower parts of the earth?”

The words with the same meaning [nether parts of the earth] were used in Ezekiel 31:16
So where Jesus descended to? In initial chaos?

Peter explained that Jesus descended into the prison of fallen angels, who sinned before the Flood:
1Pet.3:18-20 “For Christ … being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient… in the days of Noah”.

Isaiah (24:21,22) tells that Satan's angels - «the host of the high ones that are on high», after the Second coming «they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit [crypt]..., and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited».
They will be cast down to the same place where Satan will be cast down (see Isa.14:15 - given above- there the same word bur which means [crypt] was used).

And Bible tells when they will get there after the Second coming there another fallen angels, who rebelled in the days of Noah, will be waiting for them in there (see Isa.14:9, Ezekiel 31:16).

«God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment» (2Pet.2:4).  Peter used the word tartarus, which meaning is very close to the meaning of the word abyss. In Greek mythology it is a kingdom of the dead, abyss beneath the earth, where Zeus cast down Titans to (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tartarus ).

Jude in 1:6 speaks about those fallen angels also:
« And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day
».

As it was shown above, demons begged Jesus do not command them to go out into the «abyss» (Luke 8:31), which is the prison of fallen angels. Thus, God cast fallen angels in abyss – the great deep.

So we see, that lower parts of the earth, where OT said Satan will be cast is the prison of fallen angels, who rebelled against God before the flood, it is crypt and abyss, prison and hell, where Jesus came down to talk with the fallen angels and  where Satan will be cast into at the Second coming. It is empty space beneath the earth . Today the angels are kept there in chains until Judgment Day, and  demons afraid to get there. These fallen angels will be released, when the 5th trumpet will sound, and abyss will be open (Rev.9:2,3). Thus, the place for an imprisonment of Satan under the earth has already been prepared for a long time.

In Phil.2:10 it is told «That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth, and under the earth». Paul did not have in mind that cows, eagles and moles will be bow down before Jesus. He spoke about those from whom the worship is expected: about angels in heaven, people on earth and fallen angels under the earth.

There is no one place in the Bible which speaks that Satan will remain on earth after the Second coming of Jesus, just as it is not spoken, that during the1000 years the earth will be empty.

Further in this work you will see, that Bible clearly speaks, that not all saved people will enter The Kingdom of Heaven, many of them will stay on the restored earth during the 1000 years. After  termination of the 1000 years Satan will organize the last battle, when all unrighteous will be slain, all alive righteous will be taken to heaven..

Then the Judgment will be passed on all the dead who haven't reach the Kingdom of Heaven. The earth will be completely burned up, God will create the new earth and New Jerusalem with all saints and righteous will come down on the new planet earth.

New Jerusalem of the Bible

Usually those who regardless of prophecies of  Old Testament (will be analyzed later) still believe that after the Second coming nothing will remain on earth, as the unique arguments for to prove their theory they quoting 2Pet.3:10 and Jer.4:23,25.

The Prophecy 2Pet.3:10

Lets analyze Peter’s prophecy by bringing to our attention the context the prophecy was given in (2Pet.3:7,10,12,13):

"The present heavens and earth ... reserved for fire, being kept until the day of Judgment and destruction of the ungodly people...
The day of Judgment which will be at the Second Coming or after the 1000 years (Rev.20:11,12)?; destruction of ungodly people at the Second coming or after the 1000 years at the last battle?). We see we have two possible answers.

"But the day of the Lord will come like a thief , and the heavens will vanish with thunderous crash, and the elements (of the universe) will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up….Looking for...day of God, wherein the
heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat …"

We see that at the Jesus’ coming all elements of the earth will be gone, heavens will disappear , the earth and everything on it will be burned up. That means that there will be no life on the earth.

Can it happen after the Second coming?

We know, that the last battle between Satan and Jesus will take place in 1000 years after the Second coming (Rev.20:7), and it will take place on the earth. This battle described in Rev.19 (it will be analyzed later), after which all who participated in the battle will be cast into the lake of fire (19:20).

The lake of fire will be only in 1000 years after the Second coming: "which is the second death" (Rev.21:8), i.e. the lake will appear before the wicked will be resurrected in order for them to accept the second death. Hence, Rev.19 describes the battle just before the apparition the lake of fire, i.e. in 1000 years after the Second coming.

In Rev.19  we read, that in the time of the last battle there will be sun and heaven, and birds (Rev.19:17), and horses (19:18), and sea (20:13- that a sea here is not a symbol we will see later), and city of Jerusalem (Rev.20:8. That here is spoken about earthly Jerusalem will be explain later). That could not be existed if the heavens disappeared and all elements were burned up after Jesus’ Second coming.

Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them” (38:2,8).

Now ask yourself: does Israel lives safely today? Don’t  they have locks and doors? (38:11)

If there once in history Israel was attacked by many nations? (:15).
Ezekiel said that Israel will be attacked by Gog after it will be repopulated again. Only twice in history Israel was repopulated: after Babylonian captivity and after 1949.  Was Israel attacked by many nations after Babylonian captivity? No. Though Israeli land saw many aggressors, but always an attacker was a some one nation. After the restoration of Israel in 1948 Israel never lived safely, and attackers never were punished by God «with great hailstones, fire, and brimstone » (38:22). Therefore Gog's attack against Jerusalem , described by Ezekiel, had no a place in the past.

Maybe Ezekiel told about the Gog’s attack against New Jerusalem, as Adventists teach? However Bible doesn’t  say that in New Jerusalem people will do cattle and acquisition (:12) and will not have walls (:11, comp. Rev.21:12)?

People will be able to live without doors and lockers only when there will be no Satan’s influence on the earth. That is why Ezekiel spoke not about New Jerusalem which will have walls , but about earthly Jerusalem at the end of 1000 years of peace after the Second coming.

After the last battle God will rain upon Gog and the nations with him  «torrents of rain and great hailstones, fire and brimstone» (Ezek.38:22), which will make the lake " burneth with fire and brimstone" (Rev.21:8).

Further you will see that on the last battle against Jesus Satan will lead not resurrected wicked , but wicked who will live on the earth at the end of the 1000-years period. Think for yourself: Why would God resurrect horses and birds if right after the battle the earth will turn to hell any way? Besides, in the scene of the Judgment of the resurrected-20:12 there are no any animals.

Revelation says that all elements will be dissolved and burned up in 1000 years after the Second coming, after the last battle, in the time of the Judgment of the dead: "Then I saw a great white throne and Him that sat on it, from Whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them" (20:11).
Johan saw the dead standing before the throne of God, not on earth. At that time the earth will be the hell itself.

Peter said: " the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up". That means that nothing will be left out of earth ("See! I make all things new" Rev.21:5), and no any works on it will be done after “the works that are upon it will be burned up”. This can happen only in 1000 years after the Second coming, in His third coming, when all unrighteous after the last battle with Jesus will be thrown into the lake of fire (Отк.21:8), all the earth will become as the lake of fire “Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger”(Ps.21:9),  and all wicked people with all their works will be thrown into the flames of hell, which will cover all earth. All earth will be burned up.

Lets continue Peter’s prophecy: “Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for the new heavens and new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness".
So i
t is logical to assume that in this prophecy Peter spoke about Jesus’ coming in 1000 years after Second coming, when heavens will pass away, elements, earth and everything on it will burned up, all the earth will become as the lake of fire, where Satan and all unrighteous with all their works will be burned up, and God will create new haven and new earth, where the only righteous will live.

The reason why Satan will not be left on earth, but will be cast down under the ground is clearly specified in Revelation: « that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled»
(Rev.20:3). Isa.14:7,8 said, that when Satan will be imprisoned in “hell from beneath” «The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing. Yea, the fir trees (trees are symbolizing people -Psalm 92:12, 37:35) rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us (i.e. there are no wars anymore there)».
Thus people will live on the earth during those 1000 years in peace and prosperity, without Satan and his angels.

Thus, the given Peter's prophecy is built on the principle of parallelism. Not knowing it,  people wrongly coming to conclusion that this prophecy is only about the Second coming.

In next chapters we will see, that the prophecy about Gog and Magog has the parallelism also: they will attack Israel before the Second coming (Ezek.39), and in 1000 years after the Second coming (Ezek.38). The prophecy of Jeremiah(4:23,25) also will be studied later.

The vision about the empty earth after the Second coming was not given to Ellen White by God, because Bible speaks different.  Further we will see, the Bible clearly says, the earth during the 1000 years will not be empty , therefore Satan will not remain on it, he will be imprisoned under the ground, in abyss, as Bible tells.
