The village of Naggar derives its name from NAGA, the serpent.... As I began my ascent on the mountain path, I saw a tall grey-haired sadhu (hermit), sitting by a mountain torrent. In his hand he held a cobra-shaped staff, which together with the markings on his forehead, signified that he was a devotee of Shiva..... . I climbed the mountain and reached the terrace on which Roerich's house is built. I spent an hour studying (his) paintings. On the way back I admired the narrow valley and the looming snow-capped mountain ridges on both sides.

"The sadhu was still there. I thought, 'A place called Naggar, a devotee of the Nagas with the cobra staff, if he does not know something about the Nagas, then who does?'

After Andrew Tomas asked this man, apparently a misguided member of a serpent cult, if he knew anything about the "Nagas" or the serpent beings, the pagan devotee responded: 'I am a poor sadhu, I know nothing, sahib. But about twenty years ago my yogi teacher went into the mountain kingdom of the Nagas. Bright lights everywhere, big halls like Taj Mahal... The Nagas have many, many things and machines. They are clever, like Cambridge men, may be more clever, sahib,' the sadhu said with an apologetic smile...

"'Your yogi must have been a Rishi. Don't the Nagas destroy men with their sting?' I asked.

"'Yes, though the Nagas are gods and wish nothing but good to man, they do not like men who have no business near their palaces,' he replied."

As we see, some people of Himalaya still believe in existence of underground beings who have a mystical power and high intelligence, and even they  realize the negative attitude of this creatures toward to people they still worship them. These Himalayan  are sure, that Naga have a civilization under ground far superior than a human have.

In antiquity people believed in existence of “the underground world” occupied by snakelike essences, which had supernatural forces. Many people worshipped these essences and even brought human sacrifices, trying to coax the monsters. Temples and chapels frequently were built near the caves that were considered the gates into the other world.

One of such relics is located in several miles to the southEast from Oaxaca, in Mexico, among some very ancient ruins. It is the ancient temple “Mitla”. Various sources assert that earlier the basis of this temple was lowered deeply under ground, there was a large stone door, behind which there were underground transitions. In the past Indians endowed relatives to “gods” of the underground world. These sacrifices were thrown into the dark corridors alive and were never noticed again. Some centuries ago Spanish priests arrived to this area of South East Mexico and began to investigate the ruins, including the ancient temple Mitla. They managed to break the door in the third basement level and entered the underground chambers. With torches in hands they continued their way deep into the endless underground hall conducting in the direction of a remote mountain chain. After the penetration to a considerable distance they were frightened with horrible noises, they saw strange forms and shadows, a lot of snakes sliding among the stones in the darkness. Suddenly the winds began to blow through the large pass. They began to test a great fear and were sure, that are before the country of shadows. They left with a great haste, sealed the door and ordered the natives to fill up all the three basement levels by stones and ground.

Another interesting sight is the ruins Tiahuanaco, near the city Cusco in Peru. None of the cultures in the past and in the present could create such masonry - a product of finest civil engineering.

The 20-ton stone blocks are attached to each other without using cement or any other material, with ideal accuracy, so that it is impossible to put an edge of the knife between them. How could ancient people made it?
