P11 When
the devil in the image of a snake tempting Eve said that if they eat the fruits
they will not die, «For God doth know
that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be
as gods, knowing good and evil», Eve
heard a lie for the first time. There stood a question before people : who is right? And they doubted
... God. They decided to learn by themselves what is good and what is evil, without the help of God. They wanted to become like gods.
So,
as usual God came to visit His earthly children. As a careful Father He liked to
communicate with them, to answer their questions. But they didn’t
run to meet Him, they hid. And as a knife through His heart: they have eaten the fruits! They renounced Him!
God
asked Adam: «Hast thou eaten of the
tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?». And
what did Adam answer? “The
woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the
woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat». They did not only
admit their fault, but accused God of their offence (You had given me such a wife.
And its Your fault). The man turned to be imperfect... What do you think, why Adam and Eve didn’t die at once as soon as they had eaten the fruit off the forbidden tree? As you see in 2:17 it is said: «.. for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die». They were to die immediately! The tree wasn't poisonous, they were to die for the sin they committed. However God did not only make them die, He made leather clothes for them and dressed them. They got their first lesson: a sin is death. First animals had to die to provide clothes for them because of their sin. The
first people made their choice: by eating the fruit from the forbidden tree they
had preferred Satan as their master instead of God. The conflict between Satan
and Christ had been exist since before the creation of the world. The eating the
fruit was not just a simple act of disobedience, it was an official choice of a
master. Satan challenged God that the people will chose him. The whole universe
was watching the first people. They did what was forbidden for them to do, thus
the choice was done. And God respects everybody's free will. God could not leave them in
the garden of Eden , because there was a tree of life giving immortality, and a sinner
can’t be immortal. Later on the evil increased among people, and human beings became so perverted, that «LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them» (Gen. 6:7). But then God decided to leave Noah’s family alive. God
can not go against the Law. The Law is inside of God’s very own nature. According to
the Law mankind must have died for their sins in the
beginning: the first people had to die without leaving offspring. The waters of
the Flood must have destroyed everyone. Why do we still exist? The answer is
given by the apostle Peter
(1Pet.1:18-21): « ... ye were
not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold… But with the
precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, Who
verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world.»;
also in Rev.13:8
- «Lamb slain from the
foundation of the world». You
see God is omniscient. The Bible says that no one knows the future but God. And
God knew beforehand, before the creation of the planet Earth about the fall of
people. And the sacrifice - Jesus
was prepared before the creation of the world. But
remember: God’s love is free from compulsion and violence. Jesus' sacrifice was
voluntary. To sacrifice Himself for the sake of people was also Jesus' own desire. God left the same
"door" for Jesus as for the first people, through which He always
could go out, i.e. refuse to be the sacrifice. When the first sin was committed
God, probably, asked Jesus if He was ready to pay for their sin? Jesus said: ”
Yes, I’m ready ”. And people were left alive. They died much later after
leaving a multiple offspring. |
