In his vision Daniel asked one of the angels to explain, what it means, and angel explained: « These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth. But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever » (7:17-18).
In the Daniel vision is given the limited number of empires: 4, which will be on earth. 4 animals represent the first 4 empires seen by the king Nebuchadnezzar. Since the lion is the king of animals, and gold is the king of metals, the Babylon Empire is represented to Daniel as a lion.
Bear
with three ribs – the empire of Medo-Persians,
and 3 edges are 3 provinces joined the empire: Egypt, Lydia and Babylon.
Leopard
- prompt and artful – is Greek government.
4 heads represent the division of Greece on 4 areas after the death of its first
king Alexander the Great. 4 areas became the possession of 4 generals: Cassander,
Lysimachus, Ptolemy, Seleucus.
And
finally awful
animal with iron teeth (that
corresponds to iron legs of the
image)* - the fourth empire trampling on all earth - Rome.
« Fourth
beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all
kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break
it in pieces. And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall
arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the
first, and he shall subdue three kings » (7:23-24)
In
47AD Rome was divided into 10 tribe groups: Ostrogoths, Heruli, Franks,
Vandals, Lombards, Visigoths, Suevi, Burgundians, Alamanni, and Anglo-Saxons,
which are 10
horns. And, the small
horn, which appeared in that time
– is the Roman Catholic Church, destroyed 3 tribes: Ostrogoths, Heruli
and Vandals.
Daniel
foretold that the small horn will govern «time, times and
half-time» (time = year, i.e. 360days) **. All together: 360 +720+180 = 1260 (basically,
in all prophecies the day is considered for one year Num.14:34; Ezek. 4:6).
1260
days in the moon calendar = 1243
– in the standard solar (1260x360:365). Having
defined when these 1243 come to an end, we will learn when the government of the
small horn was finished.
From history we know, that the authority of papacy was shaken in 1848-9, when in Italy the National Movement for clearing of foreign domination (Austria) and liquidation of territorial dissociation began. In 1849 the extremists grasped the control above Rome, killed the prime minister of the Pope and compelled the Pope Pius IX to escape secretly.
