P2 Jesus Christ is not simply a name. It rather a title. The name “Jesus” came from the Greek variant of the name Yahshua, that means: "Lord, the Savior". The title ("Christ") was taken from Greek and it means "Messiah" or "Anointed One", "Chosen One". The
Gospel of John begins this way: « In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God....
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was
made. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father» (1:1,14). The Bible says not just once that Jesus existed long before His birth on the Earth as the human: «But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman» (Gal.4:4). Jesus prayed: «And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was» (John 17:5). «What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?» «Before Abraham was, I am» (John 3:13,6:51,6:62,8:23,8:58). Jesus said: «For this cause I was born and for this cause I have came into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth» (John.18:37); «I must preach the kingdom of God …for therefore am I sent» (Luke 4:43); «Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many» (Mat.20:28). Hundreds
of years before Jesus was born, through the prophets God predicted, where Jesus
would be born, from whom, when He would be baptized, what death He would have
and other things. Totally in the Old Testament there are 60 basic
prophecies and about 270 specifications, which have come true in one man - Jesus
Christ. According to the theory of probability, there is only one chance from 10
in 157-th degree, what even 8 such prophecies
can come true in one man (Josh
McDowell, The New Evidence that Demands a Verdict,c.193) . 700 years before Jesus’s birth Micah
(5:2) predicted:
«But thou, Bethlehem
Ephrathah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee
shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel
whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting». Out
of all the cities on the Earth God selected Bethlehem,
with the population less than 1000 people, as the birthplace of Messiah. Mary
and Joseph were the inhabitants of Nazareth
(Luke 2:4), and only for the
short period of time on the occasion of the census they came in Bethlehem.
There, as it had been predicted Mary gave the birth. Earlier
Isaiah (7:14) added, that Jesus
would be born by a virgin. The
prophecies ran that before Him there would come «a
messenger» (Isa.40:3; Mal.3:1) who would prepare
the way for God. It was John the
Baptist. Long before Jesus had
come it was said in the Bible when Christ would appear.
«From the going forth of the
commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall
be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks:»
(Dan.9:25,26). |
