“What is His name and what is His Son’s name, if you know?”(Pr.30:4)

Only deep belief in Jesus and his word the Bible, can save the man from the devil' deceit and death. The Bible says that in the last days, the time of the end of the world, «whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered» (Joel 2:32, Act.2:21, Rom.10:13). Psalter 66:2 says: «Sing forth the honor of His name», and in Proverbs (18:10) it is said: «The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe». In the pray we address him: «Hallowed be thy name...».

But do we know the name of the God? In Psalter 83:18 it is said: «That men may know that thou, whose name alone is the Lord, art the most high over all the earth». Amos 4:13- «The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name». Ex.6:3 - «And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by My name Lord I was not known to them».

But is Lord a name? Certainly not. In 1Cor.8:5 it is told: «... as there be gods many, and lords many». When and why the name of the Lord disappeared from the Bible?

It happened many centuries ago before Jesus' coming. The third among 10 commandments given by  God on the mountain of Sinai was: «Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain» (Ex. 20:7). Everyone tested tremor at pronouncing the Holy Name. At copying Holy Scriptures the writers had a special pen with special ink for writing of His name. Gradually the Pharisees convinced the Jewish people that the name of God should be confidential, and to prevent the Most High's anger for inappropriate saying of His name it should be better to allow them to keep it in a reliable place: only among the priests of a temple. When Jewish scriptures were translated into Greek, the name of God was withdrawn. Thus they became known for the world in this form.

«Jehovah Witnesses» aspire to convince us that the name of God is Jehovah. In their Bible in some places you can see this name, for example, in Ex.15:3: «The Lord is man of war; Jehovah is His name». But in Gen.22:14 it is said: «And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-ire: as it is said to this day, in the mount of the LORD it shall be seen».  «And Moses built an altar, and gave it the name of Jehovah-ness” (Ex.17:15, в Jud. 6:24 –“Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah-shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites”). Do you think these deeply faithful men could name a place by the name of God, that the people in vain could use it? Imagine, if the contemporary of Abraham told to the neighbor: «I go on the Jehovah mountain », or «I need to go to the Jehovah’s altar ». It is absolutely out of the question. Jehovah is not the name of God, but the word meaning: "God".

The name of the Canaanite god Baal is also translated as «god, master» (Harper’s Bible Dictionary, Miller). There were many baals, or gods with various names. People worshipped them on high places, making human sacrifices. Each city had its own local deity: Baal- Gad (Josh. 11:17), Baal- Hamon (Song. 8:11), Baal-Hazor (2Sam. 13:23), Baal-Hermon (I Chron. 5:23),  Baal-Perazim (2Sam. 5:20), Baal-Shalisha (2King. 4:42), Baal-Tamar (Jud.20:33), Baal-Zephon (Num.33:7), Baal- Peor (Num. 25:3, 5; Deu. 4:3).

It is interesting, that in all languages the pronunciation of the name Baal remained practically unchanged, when the name of God was replaced on "Lord". Having made such replacement, even the record was still made by special ink, the Pharisees equated God Almighty to the divinities of the Devil! Therefore God asked:  « who try to male My people forget My name by  their dreams …as their fathers forgot My name for Baal ?» (Jer. 23: 27).

For the God it is important, that people knew him by name, therefore Jesus reminded to his disciples  the forgotten by then name of God : «I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me» (John 17:6,26).

The Pharisees adhering "sacred" customs established by their predecessors, sacredly kept the knowledge which  was given to Jewish people by God  from Jewish people (Luke 11:52). Anyone, who tried to bring out this knowledge on light, was considered apostate and was beaten with stones to death. Among the secret knowledge there was the Name. The reason of attempts on life of the Jesus' disciples by the Jewish religious fans was not only new doctrine, which they carried, but also the disclosing of secret of the name of God .
